Overview
Buga is the plains — the open, grazed country that starts seven kilometres from Nairobi's central business district and runs south for 117 square kilometres without a fence on its southern edge.
It is the only national park in the world inside a capital city, and its black rhino population is one of the densest in Kenya. Lion, buffalo, giraffe, eland and over 400 bird species share it. We go at first light, when the animals are moving and the light is worth photographing.

Pick-up and park gate
We collect you before dawn and reach the main gate as it opens. The early start is the whole point — predators are still active and the light is low and warm.

Game drive across the plains
We work the Athi Basin and the Mbagathi river circuits with the roof up. Rhino favour the scrub near Kingfisher; lion are often on the ridge above the dams.

Ivory Burning Site
A short stop at the monument where Kenya burned twelve tonnes of confiscated ivory in 1989 — a decision that reset how the world treats the trade.

Return to Nairobi
Out through the main gate and back to your hotel or on to the airport. If you are connecting to a longer safari, this is where we hand over the file.
