Kenya Safari Centre began in 1994, with gorilla tracking in the Mgahinga hills of south-west Uganda. From there we worked south — Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia, Botswana — eleven countries and a great many breakdowns.
We came back to Kenya because it is the best place in East Africa to run a road safari: the parks are varied, the distances are manageable, and the road network, for all its faults, connects them.
What we learned on that journey is mostly about failure. Which vehicles break, which roads flood, which lodges look fine online and are not, and how many hours a day a person can actually sit in a car before a safari stops being a holiday. All of that is built into the programmes on this site.
We are a small company and we intend to stay one. The person who answers your email is the person who plans your route.
Six services, and there is nothing else hidden behind them. Each one is handled in-house rather than passed to an agent.
Twenty routes, from a half day in Nairobi National Park to a twelve-day northern circuit. Each one exists because we drove it, timed it and then changed it until the days balanced.
You can book any of them exactly as published. Every programme lists its day-by-day route, what the price covers, and the specific lodges we would put you in at each of three price levels.
Most of our work starts with a fixed programme and then moves. An extra night here, a park dropped there, a slower start because you land at midnight.
We plan by email or WhatsApp, in English or German, and we will tell you honestly when an idea will not work — when a drive is too long for the time you have, or when a park is at its worst in your month.
Every programme on this site is priced with a private vehicle. You are not pooled with strangers, you do not wait at hotels for other pick-ups, and you stop when you want to stop.
The guide is the part that matters most. Ours are Kenyan, licensed, and have worked these parks long enough to read behaviour rather than just point at animals.
We do not hide accommodation behind words like 'superior' or 'deluxe'. Every safari page names the actual properties at economy, comfort and luxury level, and links to each one.
Mix the levels if you want — a luxury camp for the two Mara nights and comfort elsewhere is a common and sensible choice.
Most people want a few flat days after a safari, and the Kenyan coast is ninety minutes away by air. We coordinate the domestic flight, the airport transfers and the handover so nothing overlaps.
We prefer you to choose and book the beach hotel yourself — you know what you want from a beach better than we do. Tell us where you land and we build the rest around it.
Someone meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International with your name on a board, whatever the hour. The transfer to your Nairobi hotel is included on every programme, as is the return.
Before you set off we go through the route, the lodges, the weather and what to keep in the day bag. It takes twenty minutes and saves a lot of guessing.
