Overview
If you have nine days and want to see as much of Kenya's variety as the roads sensibly allow, this is the route. It runs the southern parks first, comes back through Nairobi and up into the Rift Valley, and finishes with two nights in the Mara.
Five distinct ecosystems: the red plains of Tsavo East, the volcanic hills of Tsavo West, Amboseli's swamps under Kilimanjaro, the freshwater basin at Naivasha, and the Mara grasslands.

Day 1
Nairobi to Tsavo East
South-east on the Mombasa highway, into the park by mid-afternoon and a first drive towards Aruba.

Day 2
Tsavo East to Tsavo West
A morning drive on the Galana, then across into Tsavo West. Afternoon at Mzima Springs.

Day 3
Full day in Tsavo West
Shetani lava flow, Chaimu crater, the Ngulia hills and Roaring Rocks. Kilimanjaro on the western horizon.

Day 4
Tsavo West to Amboseli
West through Kimana. Lunch at the lodge, then an afternoon drive on the swamps among the big herds.

Full day in Amboseli
Sunrise for the mountain, Observation Hill, and an afternoon among the elephant families.

Day 6
Amboseli to Lake Naivasha
A long transfer north past Nairobi and up the escarpment. Afternoon boat safari on the lake.

Day 7
Naivasha to the Maasai Mara
A morning walk on Crescent Island, then west through Narok to the Mara. Evening game drive.

Day 8
Full day in the Mara
Dawn to dusk with a picnic lunch. River, marsh and plains, and the crossing points in season.

Mara to Nairobi
A last drive, breakfast, and the road east through Narok. Nairobi by late afternoon.
