Overview
This programme goes further north up the Rift Valley than most operators bother with, and it is worth the extra driving. Lake Bogoria has hot springs and geysers venting on the shoreline, and it is where Kenya's lesser flamingo now concentrate in the largest numbers.
Lake Baringo is fresh, muddy and full of birds — over 470 recorded species — with hippo and crocodile along the shore. Combine the two with Nakuru, Naivasha and two full days in the Mara and you have a genuinely broad week.

Day 1
Nairobi to the Maasai Mara
West through Narok, arriving early afternoon. An evening game drive to settle in.

Day 2
Full day in the Mara
Dawn to dusk with a picnic lunch — the Mara River, the marsh, the plains. In migration season we work the crossing points.

Day 3
Second full day in the Mara
Worked differently from yesterday. Cheetah on the open Talek country, leopard in the riverine forest, and whatever the morning reports point to.

Day 4
Mara to Lake Nakuru
North out of the reserve and up the valley. Afternoon game drive in Nakuru: the rhino sanctuary, Rothschild's giraffe, Baboon Cliff at sunset.

Day 5
Nakuru to Lake Bogoria
North to Bogoria, where geysers vent along the western shore and greater kudu come down to drink. Flamingo numbers vary with the algae but can be extraordinary.

Day 6
Lake Baringo
A short drive north to Baringo. A boat trip along the shore for hippo, crocodile and a remarkable density of birds, with an Njemps fishing village on the far side.

Day 7
Baringo to Lake Naivasha
South down the valley floor to Naivasha. Afternoon boat safari among the hippos, and a walk on Crescent Island if the light holds.

Day 8
Naivasha to Nairobi
A relaxed morning at the lake, then the ninety-minute climb back up the escarpment to Nairobi.
