Overview
Amboseli sits 240 kilometres south of Nairobi, a four-hour drive, right against the Tanzanian border. Its swamps are fed by meltwater from Kilimanjaro, which is why the elephant herds here are so large and so reliable.
Two days is short but it works, because the park is compact and the animals concentrate around the water. Mornings and late afternoons give you the mountain — the cloud usually lifts off the summit at dawn and again near sunset.

Day 1
Nairobi to Amboseli
Morning departure south on the Mombasa road, then west at Emali through Maasai grazing country. Lunch at your lodge, then an afternoon game drive around the Enkongo Narok swamp where the big bulls feed shoulder-deep in water. Dinner and overnight in the park.

Day 2
Sunrise drive, then Nairobi
Out before sunrise for the mountain — this is the hour it is most often clear. We climb Observation Hill for the view over the swamps, then game drive back towards the gate. Breakfast or brunch at the lodge and the drive north, reaching Nairobi mid-afternoon.
